What tours are on offer?

Maybe you’ve already checked out the Explore Nagano page. Maybe you’ve done some of your own research. Or maybe you’ve just landed here, curious to know what kind of adventures Hikyaku Adventures can offer you.

Either way—you’re in the right place.

First of all, let’s be clear: no two adventures are the same. The people change, the weather shifts, and once you’re out exploring, anything can happen. That might seem obvious, but with Sjaak as your guide, all those ever-changing pieces come together to create something special—something that feels completely your own.

Most tours with Hikyaku Adventures start and finish at your hotel (as long as it’s within Nagano Prefecture). Still working on where to stay? No problem—Sjaak can help you find just the right accommodation. Just let him know in the message box when you [Take the First Step].

How long should I stay in Nagano?

Not sure yet? Here’s a simple way to think about it:

Try staying 2–6 nights in Nagano. That gives you time for 1–5 full days of customized adventure with no day that is similar. Want to stay in two or three different areas to mix things up? Easy—just get in touch, and we’ll build something that fits your style.

Sample Itinerary (Green-season activities shown here)

  • Day 1: Hike the sacred forests of Togakushi, learn its deep ninja and spiritual history, slurp down some of the best soba noodles in Japan, and test your skills in the trick house at the Ninja Museum.

  • Day 2: Visit the iconic Zenkoji Temple, then head to Jigokudani to see the famous snow monkeys (yes, they’re still adorable even without snow or a hot bath).

  • Day 3: Cycle through the serene landscape of Azumino, with its crystal-clear spring water, real wasabi farms, and peaceful local temples full of folklore.

  • Day 4: Step back in time as you hike an ancient route between two historic post towns on the Nakasendo trail.

But wait—on the Explore Nagano page you mentioned Matsumoto Castle, Kamikochi, running, and even views from mountaintops?! Are those part of the tour too?

Yes, yes, and yes.

There’s a lot more to explore. You can:

  • Visit Matsumoto Castle, one of Japan’s last original castles

  • Hike or trail run in the Japanese Alps—just note, these are serious mountains, better suited for experienced hikers

  • Not quite ready for alpine-level hiking? No worries—there are plenty of other incredible hikes and trail run adventures with stunning views that are more accessible. Whether you’re looking for a half-day leg-stretcher or a full-day adventure, we’ll find a route that matches your pace and interests

  • Breathe in the fresh air in Kamikochi, a spectacular highland valley perfect for scenic walking and photography

  • Go fruit picking, like sweet strawberries in late winter

  • Explore an outdoor art museum perched on a mountaintop

  • Tour a sake brewery and sample the local flavors

  • Visit the iconic Kurobe Dam and ride the Tateyama Ropeway, the longest gondola in Japan

How much does a tour cost?

Great question—and one Sjaak gets often. A privately arranged, fully guided day of adventure for up to 5 people typically starts at 75,000 yen. That includes a full-day itinerary, customized just for your group, and Sjaak as your personal guide.

Additional costs might include:
🚐 Private transportation (from and to your hotel) — Sjaak always aims to keep this affordable without compromising comfort or convenience.
🍱 Lunch and local activities — from soba tastings to entry fees, we’ll outline it all clearly as we plan your trip.

👉 Bigger group? No problem. Just reach out and see what’s possible!
